BAZIS – Contemporary art platform from Cluj-Napoca (RO) introduces itself in Berlin with an exhibition from November 24 to December 14 2012 and points out the contrast between two art scenes: Cluj and Berlin. While the booming trend-city Berlin turns contemporary art, design and club-culture into trademark and tourist attraction, the Romanian town Cluj, in its isolated and peripheral position provides completely different circumstances for artists. For the latter academic drawing lessons, the examination of traditional styles, the genres painting and sculpture are still dominating. Seemingly backward and provincial can be at the same time of great advantage, displaying the benefits of classical art education and bringing it together with the most recent developments from Berlin. The exhibition “Cluj meets Berlin” presents eight Berlin-based and eight Cluj-based artists, drawing a parallel line between the different contexts. A conscious choice of artworks, painting, photography, sculpture and installation, by emerging and also well-established artists, is showcased in a former factory building near Treptower Park, which for the first time will be turned into an art site.
