In the Name of ...
artist: TARA (von Neudorf)

“In the Name of… ” is a project of a considerable extent that includes one hundred old maps painted and drawn which represents the images of one hundred military coffins. The coffins symbolize the soldiers who gave their lives in different wars and now, after many years, they came back home. The starting point of this project is related to the moment when Tara (von Neudorf) has been watching a movie about a soldier who died on the battle field and his dead body has been sent back home. “In the Name of…” is about sacrifice. Whether it is a sacrifice made for a country, in the name of a leader, in fighting for an idea, as for sustaining a political regime, in the name of patriotism, religion or doctrine. The coffins convey our world and the worlds we have built up throughout history. The representation of a coffin states a very subtle and virulent criticism against the futility of the war.
The exhibition “In the Name of ...” raises a number of inquiries to the notion of an armed conflict. What do we fight for? Whom we fight for? Are the sacrifices of the soldiers in Rome, Posada, Munich, Mohacs, etc. of any meaning at all? Or the fact that the sacrifice is made on behalf of someone or for someone does justify the rectitude of our actions? Is the war the solution?
The art works made by Tara (von Neudorf) can be extremely uncomfortable by addressing, often, highly sensitive subjects, scanning the most hidden and dark sides of the truth. He is not the partisan of an ideology or a belief. Tara (von Neudorf) is an artist with a sharp sense of observation, recording life, who writes down, but does not give verdicts.
