BAZIS Project Space presents the first personal exhibition of the young artist George Semeniuc, a 2016 graduate of the University of Art and Design in Cluj. The title of the project alludes to the "Sphalerite" crystal (or "Blackjack" in English), a zinc sulphide whose name comes from Greek – “sphaleros”, meaning "deceitful".
Concerned about shape and color - the way the color sits in shape or the shape retains color - the artist sees in "blackjack" the point where all the dark colored tones of a single chromatic palette converge. The exhibition is presented as an assemblage made of a series of paintings composed in a unique structure, the artist understanding to look for the compositional equilibrium even outside the artwork, in relation to the empty, inexpressive space of the gallery.
